Diabetic Health Clinic Newsletter – 9/6/2014
Greetings,
The Diabetic Health Clinic Lifestyle Program has now been in existence for 18 months. As young as we are, it is interesting to see just how many diabetics have been able to get their health back on track. It is often said that diabetes is a disease for life, it is also true that diabetes can be put into remission, a remission that when a blood test is taken there is absolutely no sign of the disease.
There is often much confusion about the therm “diabetes reversal” The question is, is it possible to reverse this progressive lifestyle disease? There are two way of looking at this question. The first is, let’s say we manage to pull the disease back to a point, by consuming non-processed foods only, that when a blood test is taken it shows that there is no sign of diabetes. Now lets say this continues for years into the future would you call that a diabetes reversal? Most likely you would.
The second way to look at this question is to then say if we manage to put the disease into a state of remission what would happen if a diet of processed foods was commenced? Would the disease come back? The answer to this question is for many people that it probably would. The point is, if you have changed you lifestyle so significantly that you no longer want to eat any processed foods, would you ever want to go back to a situation that facilitated the disease occurring in the first place? The answer is probably no.
For people embarking on a lifestyle change of this magnitude speaking to a doctor about what you are doing can be a tricky exercise. For this reason we have added in the last few weeks a area on our web site that is dedicated for health professionals. This includes your doctor and diabetes educator. When you are discussing a change in lifestyle and you are trying to explain to your doctor or diabetes educator what you are embarking on, ask the to look at the Diabetic Health Clinic Information for Health Professionals. It will make your discussion much easier. You will also find this information on our home page under the menu heading of “Health Professionals”.
This week we added the following interesting information to our web site:
