Diabetic Health Clinic Newsletter – 28/7/2013

 

Greetings,

Food, food and food,  it is such a central part of our lives.  Today the availability of food is higher than it ever has been.  Even the so called 3rd world countries which are now in a developing phase have an incredibly high availability of foods.  There is a video on Globesity that you can watch which will highlight the issues at hand.  Although we have a huge availability of foods they are foods which are causing us damage.  Lets have a look at some facts.

1. Most foods today are made in a factory which means that they have been processed, that being the case it means that these foods are full of extracted ingredients and chemicals.

2. Extracted ingredients are derived from plant food.  An example of this is high fructose corn syrup, in corn and in the context of the whole food this substance is safe,  however as extracted high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) it is dangerous, especially for diabetics.

3. Extracted ingredients are mono-nutrients, all of which cause imbalances in the body.

4. Our processed foods, which are put together from these mono-nutrients are known as high energy, low nutrition foods, in other words they pack in a high sugar load.

5. Even foods considered by many as quite healthy produce a big sugar hit. These are foods like pasta, breads, healthy looking breakfast cereals, healthy snacks etc.

6. The safest way to eat is whole foods, as grown, plant based meals.  These are safe for you health and a life saver for diabetics.

 This week we added more recipes.  These are all based on whole foods, as grown meals.  Our kitchen areacontains only meals based on whole foods and there is now plenty of interesting and delicious recipes.

New Recipes

1. Bean Patties.

A tasty meal, that is satisfying, is easy to make and has some great health benefits. Because these patties are made from as grown whole food ingredients they are 100% diabetic safe.

2. Winter Comforter.

A tomato based juice which has a irresistible taste. This juice can be warmed slightly for you are feeling like something warmer. Packed with other vegetables it is a great evening juice to replace your evening meal.

3. Borsch is a famous russian soup. 

This version is made from as grown whole foods. The taste is superb, yet is is 100% diabetic safe. For many people this is a favourite.
