Diabetic Health Clinic Newsletter – 28/4/2014

Greetings,Now that we have the new web site up and running and we are getting back to our usual routine we would like to point out a few very interesting facts.

It never ceases to amaze us how often people are hesitant in changing what they do. Are we are really creatures of habit? It seems that although our health may be compromised we often have this huge resistance to doing the very things that can change our health outcomes. It seems that the status quo is a comfortable spot to be at. Very few people commit to changing!  The question that comes to mind is why is this so? Is just that we are just creatures of habit or is there more to it?

It is a well known fact that what we eat has a huge impact on our health outcomes. Many people, even when they have been diabetic for many years, even decades reject the change that can put their diabetes into remission. Then there is a huge amount of the population that are trying to loose weight, just to find that each attempt turns into a failure. It goes without saying that as the failures start to bank up all hope is lost. Often this problem is written off to genetics just as it is with type 2 diabetes. As these failures start to stack up the belief that it is genes that are causing the problem renders people to a life of misery, confusion and despair.  Yet the answer is so simple.  In this newsletter I would like to spell it out the the problem loud and clear.

The facts are that on today’s figures the average consumption of sugar is a massive 26 teaspoons per person per day. When you think about this, given that our body needs 6 teaspoons per day for energy the situation is tragic. The factory made food that is so prevalent in our modern day society is jammed packed with the stuff.

Here is how it works.

1. We eat foods that delivers a high sugar load.
2. Our body cannot use the amount of the energy that the sugar provides.
3. Our body stores this excess sugar or energy for future use.
4. When it is stored in our body it is stored as fat.

That is a massive 20 teaspoons of sugar or energy per day.

Here is the wow moment. Given that this happens every day the body can never use up the stored energy and it just keeps accumulating it! As fat!

Now here is the key to the whole problem. Processed sugar is addictive. Have a look at this recent study that has shown this to be the case “click here to see the study

So if the sugar we consume is addictive maybe there is more to it than just being creatures of habit.
