A few years ago I walked into a new Brisbane appartment complex to have a look and I met Kevin. After speaking with him for a while I discovered that he was a Type 1 Diabetic. After further discusion Kev decicided to complete our Tele-Confrence program.
I bump into many people who ask does the appropriate lifestyle change help a Type 1 diabetic. Whilst Type 1 Diabetes is a very diffrent disease to Type 2 Diabetes Kev’s results speak for themselves. Kev is also a briliant musician who not only sings and plays but also writes his own music and lyrics.
I was thrilled when Kev donated some of his songs from the brand new album “Out of Nowhere” for the new documentary. Below are some words from Kev.
Peter Pratt – Diabetic Health Clinic Founder.
A true breakthrough or revolution often requires the insight of an outsider who is not bound by the chains & shackles of being part of the mainstream.
Our health system is sick, it’s has been poisoned by a mentality of treating the symptom not the cause. I remember hearing a press conference from our Qld Health Minister proudly announcing $5million dollars for bariatric surgery for 300 people. I remember thinking at the time “Imagine what Peter Pratt & the Diabetic Health clinic could do with $5million.
I was diagnosed with diabetes eight years ago when I lived in Spain. In a 3 month period I lost around 20kg. I thought i was dying. My genius doctor, a qualified endocrinologist mis-diagnosed me as a Type 2 Diabetic. So we started on the usual course of Metformin. I walked around like one of the living dead for two years with my body running on fumes. I was actually a late onset Type 1 Diabetic. My pancreas was depleting over time and producing less and less insulin, a completely different disease to Type 2, where your cells become resistant to insulin.
When I moved back to Australia I started seeing an endocrinologist who knows his stuff, Grant diagnosed me as a late onset Type 1 Diabetic and put me on insulin, my muscle bulk & strength returned, but I was still tired all the time. The reason was my diet & my sugar addiction.
A chance meeting at work one day brought Peter Pratt & the Diabetic Heath Clinic into my life.
Peter explained that his course was designed for Type 2 Diabetics, but that it had helped Type 1’s also. I’m always up for trying something new, so I took the leap of faith.
The Diabetic Heath Clinic course left an indelible impression on me, it made me look at food in a whole new light. There was a period while I was juicing that I was able to stop my Insulin for about ten days. A caveat here (remember that my Type 1 is progressive, so I still produce some natural insulin) this is not a cure for Type 1. The point is that we all need to reframe the way we look at food.
My day starts the same every day now, juice consisting of carrot, celery, ginger, lemon & apple, I just love it & it balances my blood sugar & off I go. My wife Maria prepares so many of the recipes from Diabetic Heath Clinic recipe list.
I often wonder why our “Health Department” can’t see the truth & implement it.
I have chosen to donate my songs to the new documentary because the truth must & will be delivered!
