Statins in the spotlight once again

Greetings,

Pills_Spilling_Fom_ContainerOver the years we have seen many questions raised about statins. Statins are the group of drugs which are used to reduce cholesterol. Cholesterol levels over the years have climbed sharply and for very good reasons. Humans modified our foods so heavily that the majority of foods consumed today are factory assembled foods. Since we started accepting these types of foods as normal chronic diseases have hit unprecedented levels.

This week an extremely disturbing study was released. The ten-year study, published in the Journal f Internal Medicine into statin use shows that people who take this drug are twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes. It has also been shown that there is a strong link between weight gain and the use of statins along with other compilations.

Professor Ishak Mansi, a heart specialist at the University of Texas who led the study, said the association between statin use and diabetes complications ‘was never shown before.

Users of statins were more than twice as likely to develop diabetes and were 250 percent more likely than their non-statin-using counterparts to develop diabetes with complications.

No that should be a wake up call for all of us. Not so long in the US there was talk about adding statins to drinking water. That idea was very reversed after Professor Beatrice Colomb did a painstaking review of 99 papers. She found that there are many side effects that these drugs cause.

We live in a world where we have our cake and then we take our statins with it. What we are really doing is trying to counteract the negative effects of the food with statins. The point is, if it is our food that is the root cause of this problem then would it not make sense to simply not eat it?

If you would like to make a lifestyle change that will make sure you no longer desire or want any processed foods at all. If you live in the Bairnsdale or Sale area in the beautiful Victorian Gippsland area then why don’t you join at one of our free community programs.
