Diabetic Health Clinic Newsletter – 23/2/2015
Greetings,
This week we look at why young people are getting sick. Type 2 diabetes in the past has been known as a adult onset disease. Shockingly this has now changed. Doctors no longer refer to type 2 diabetes as an adult onset disease. The fact is that many teenage children are now being diagnosed with this terrible disease. Even more concerning is that diagnosis is occurring in children in the pre-teenage years. That is terrible!
The question is why?
Last week a new report published by the Cancer Council of Australia and the Heart Foundation shows that one quarter of our children are now overweight or even worse in the obese category. The report talks about the fact that children use screen devices like iPads in preference to physical activity. There is no doubt that this has an effect. Our question is why food has not been looked at in this report. Children eat the same processed foods that adults do and just as adults are becoming obese so are children. This terrible state of affairs needs to be urgently reversed.
If only people would get the message and comply with a whole food, as grown, plant based diet we would see a lot less health issues not only in children but also in the adult population. Diabetes would take a huge nose dive as would many other lifestyle or chronic diseases.
Our next question is when are food companies going to be held accountable?
This week we added the following items to our web site:
