A new report from Queensland Health shows that 25% of all Queensland deaths are linked to weight.
The new report highlights just how devastating the obesity epidemic has become. There have been some important findings made for type 2 diabetics diabetes increasing—
- Type 2 diabetes prevalence increased by 25% over the past 12 years.
- Gaining weight—average adult Queenslander gained about 3kg in a decade and obesity rates.
- Weight increased 2.5 times over two decades—by measurement 28% of children are overweight or obese and 65% of adults.
- Dementia rising—the number of cases likely to increase more than fivefold by 2050. (Many researchers believe that dementia is type 2 diabetes of the brain).
- Poor diet choices—more than one-third of daily energy intake derived from energy-dense nutrient-poor foods such as sugary drinks, snack foods and confectionery.
Society today is focused on deaths from smoking, alcohol and drug use. There is also a big focus on road deaths and yet the deaths from consuming processed foods or from energy-dense nutrient-poor foods such as sugary drinks, snack foods and confectionery accounts for one quarter of the states deaths. This is a death epidemic the eclipses all other issues that our modern day society is dealing with.
The type 2 diabetes epidemic is spiralling out of control to the point where governments are no longer able to pay the health care costs and the culprits according to this report are processed foods.
